1st 2010 Construction Update

Bala Beach Resort Construction Update.

Buildings one and two continue to rise. Soon the structures will have reached the top floors and the process of interior finishing will commence. The work crew has increased considerably. All this and recent pictures are currently available for viewing on the blog portion of the official resort website at www.balabeach.com/

During my recent visit to Bala Beach in March 2010(previous visit was in November 2009) glass was being installed in Building 1 lower levels and it appeared both buildings were "topped out." Certainly by now the buildings will really look enclosed. Obviously the site has quite a ways to go to begin to look like the artist's rendering, but overall I my impression was positive and I'll maintain my trust in the developer. My realtor (Cpanama) continues to praise their financial strength and reputation. Previously I was mildly disappointed at the distance and positioning of Building 2 relative to the water, but cannot say I am dissatisfied. I think I'll still get the view I am hoping for. Meanwhile, I've sampled several of the restaurants near Portobello and think the food and beer will be a regular part of my diet! Despite some annoying locals trying to get you to pay them money to "watch" your car at the Portobello fort ruins, the beer is cold there too. Haven't made it past Portobello but have to leave something for later!

We were to the site in April 2010. Glass was not in, but looked like it might be soon. I was not thrilled with the area of the project, but after we have been home I have researched the area more and now that I have found portabella like it much better and wish cpanama had taken me through that area. I want to go back to bala when we return to panama as I really wanted to be in the carribean. Which unit did you buy/

Were are buying unit 705 in Building 2, a two-bedroom, two-bath. (Would like a penthouse unit!) I liked the "isolation" and look of Bala Beach and the area when I contracted to buy and hopefully will find it enjoyable and convenient living there. Certainly many more and closer amenities could be found in Pacific Coast resorts but weighing all the factors I though BB was the one to take a chance on. We'll see. What are you looking for?

What I am looking for is a good question. I want to be on the beach. I want a pool and a community. I loved the views there. I too would love the penthouse, but I don't really think we need that. I have a huge house that I cannot take care of here and we are trying to downsize. We probably will not be able to get back there until August. We are going to Miami this weekend to look, but really don't think we will like it, but thought since closer to home and US...should at least give it a look. Do you have any of the layout. I am not sure which was the building you are in?

This link will show you the different layouts. Miami is a very different place. Good luck on your search:

Debbie--

I would suggest you may want to first decide whether you want to purchase in U.S. or outside U.S., assuming you are a U.S. citizen. Although we believe Bala Beach meets what we're looking for, rest assured there are numerous other beach resort options in Panama to consider--and more all the time. So, don't worry about floor plans until you decide on a destination, whether at Bala Beach or elsewher in Panama. Without doubt, you will find a unit meeting your needs wherever you go, whether Miami or Panama. The criteria in selecting a retirement destination depends on many factors, each weighed differently by different people. For example, important to me were (i) low cost of living, (ii) sense of adventure, (iii) cost of unit, (iv) annual "carrying cost" (condo fees and property taxes), and(v)pathway to possible citizenship (if we want to pursue). If these factore are relatively unimportant, then perhaps retirement in the U.S. would be a better choice for you. My analysis made living offshore, and in particular Panama, the right choice. I hope this helps.

Well, we are back from Miami and Fort Lauderdale. There are some good deals there, but the HOA fees are outrageous. Seems like food has gone up a bit there too! I just received the prices for the two buildings at Bala. Do you know which buildings these are in the rendering. Do you think building two will have good views? We only went into building one. I really need new pictures. I hope they post some soon on their website. I've come alot more interested since looking at other Youtube videos of the area.

I have no idea what rendering you are referring to. I believe Building 2 will have good views--pools and rec area below, ocean, and mountains and coast to the right. Look at the fourth picture posted for the February 1, 2010 construction update located at http://www.balabeach.com/balabeachblog/ This shows a view towards the water. I don't know what level or building this is from but perhaps "Bala Beach Exchange" could tell us.
